Running Hot and Cold

This Sunday at Youth Ignition  Live, we continued our CHANGES series looking at the big changes teenagers experience in junior high. We focused on the emotional changes that accompany this season of life.

Using Hebrews 4:14-16 as our foundation, we saw how it's important that students understand that nothing they are beginning to experience is unknown to God. Not only did God create us to be emotional humans, but he also walked in our shoes as a human-when Jesus, God the Son, came down to this earth. God has felt the same things that we feel.

As this passage from Hebrews reminds us, Jesus can relate to our struggles. Because of God's grace and mercy, teenagers can navigate this area of change with confidence. They don't have to be ashamed of their emotional changes, and they can ask God for help in finding a healthy way to express and handle those emotions.

Here are some questions you might want to use in a conversation with your teenager about this week's lesson:

How often do you wonder WHY you feel the way you feel? What kinds of answers do you come up with?

Is it weird to think that Jesus experienced the crazy emotions you feel? What is the strangest emotion that you can picture Jesus feeling-especially when he was a teenager?

When you respond to something while feeling a certain emotion, what effect might that have on the people around you?

Thanks for your continued prayers for the youth of Relevant. Have a great week!
